At my initial wrap skirt announcement way back in June 2020 one of the skirts was made with a fabric that was brightly colored with a floral pattern and if you looked closely you would find chipmunks running around. I originally bought the fabric for myself but I thought it would make a super fun wrap skirt. I actually still have that skirt on hand if you love the fabric and you have a waist that measures between 30 and 36 inches you might want to claim it today.
So back in November a lovely woman came along looking for a bright skirt in maxi length. We had a video chat where I showed her lots of fabrics. She fell in love with the chipmunks. But there was a problem. I only had about 3 yards of it on hand. I immediately began searching for more of it. For a maxi wrap skirt that is a full or 3/4 circle the requirement is about 7.5 yards. For a fabric like this that is directional the requirement is about another full yard. So i was in a bit of trouble.
I was able to find some bits here and there but it was a fabric that was no longer in print and was now selling for almost $50 per yard. 5 more yards would have been $250 yards. So, that was out of the question for this particular skirt… My friend Amy happened to have 3 yards that she bought at the same time as I bought mine. So now I had 6 yards and the skirt puzzle began.
There was a lot of tracing and calculating and measuring to be able to get the longest and widest skirt possible from the fabric that I had. In the end I was able to make a tea length skirt with a bit of a narrower sweep and a contrasting waist band/tie. I think it turned out beautifully and it’s a great skirt to wear with heels or sneakers.
Now a couple of weeks ago I had a little public sale on all of the samples and ready to ship midi length skirts I have on hand. I will be running another sale during the last week of January only for my biggest fans group. This sale will offer deeper discounts so I can clear my rack to prepare for my next skirt style which will be becoming available in February.
