One thing I know is that if you aren’t a person who works with fabric it can be difficult to imagine what a flat piece of fabric will look like worked up into a garment. I get it. That’s why I have started doing a new thing for each of my custom skirt clients.
I take the fabrics that they think they might like and before I cut it into a skirt I pin it to my dress form that is closest totheir waist measurement so they can get an idea of what the final skirt will look like. I also do it when I have a new idea for a skirt or even a dress for the first step before cutting valuable cloth.
Let me show you the last three skirts I’ve draped.

Now let me show you the dress I’m thinking of.
The reason I designed the original wrap skirt is because I wanted a wrap skirt that had plenty of overlap so that if a breeze came along it wouldn’t fly open. I have also always wanted a more modest wrap dress. It has been floating around in my brain for some time. My plan is to design a top and just add it to the existing skirt. I’m still working it all out but keep watching as I come up with the pattern little by little.
