How to Style A Skirt 5 Ways to Bring Out Your Best Qualities.

I have found over many years of trying lots of styles is a snatched waist, a fitted bodice and a full skirt looks so beautiful on almost everyone. Look no further than fashion history to see the hourglass silhouette accentuated over and over again. So let’s talk about how to focus on the bits that you love about yourself while taking away the focus on the parts that you might. So let me give you my Five Favorite Tips about how to style a skirt to accentuate your best womanly bits no matter your size.

1. Tuck tops in or knot them to define your waist

– no matter your waist size don’t hide that bit. I do this with t-shirts and button down shirts.

2. Look for skirts that hit your natural waist.

Your natural waist is the smallest part of your torso. This will always be higher than where your jeans sit but it’s more flattering and your tops stay tucked a lot more easily. The natural waist is at a different spot on everybody. It can be misleading because many manufacturers who are asking for a waist measurement are actually asking for a waist band measurement. To find your natural waist measurement you can just look in the mirror and find your smallest part or while standing straight bend slightly to the side and find where the indent forms and measure there.

3. Wear shoes that are comfortable to your feet.

Uncomfortable shoes can turn your smile into a grimace. Some people say that for any skirt longer than knee length you should wear heels. I disagree. I wear flats daily. I only ever wear heals to church or if I’m going somewhere fancy, I believe in being comfortable. If you love heels, wear them for sure, but don’t let your love of flat shoes stop you from wearing skirts. I know this sounds cliche but if you feel confident you will appear that way to everyone around you.

4. Wear a high waisted skirt with a cropped top.

A high waisted maxi with a cropped top makes everyone look like they have long legs. Heck, even I look tall at my towering height of 5’3″

5. Choose cardigans or jackets that stop at your waist.

When choosing a jacket or sweater it is always great to have one that is just to the top of your hip or to your waist if possible. When the goal is to accentuate that waist don’t then hide it by adding a layer that undoes all of your planning.

As you can see, wearing a skirt that sits at your natural waist can be flattering on many body types as long as you bring the focus to your waist and offer that hourglass silhouette that has been popular in so many style eras. Regardless of your bust or hips measurement this skirt style will make you feel amazing while you loo amazing.
