In late 2019/early 2020 I decided to make a change. I decided to just go for my dream of being a designer. And I decided I would begin by focusing on my most favorite pice of clothing – the skirt.

Initially I wanted to focus on a skirt that would be able to fit every body type. I wanted a skirt that would be modest but would also be very versatile. I wanted it to give the look of an hourglass figure so I knew a full skirt was in order. I wanted the cinched waist and so I knew a wider waist band that was placed at the natural waist for most people would look beautiful.

The other thing I wanted to make were colorful skirts with bold exciting prints. I knew those things wouldn’t be for everyone but I wanted that to be my starting point.

I had a glimmer of an idea and I got to work.

This is the skirt I made as my prototype.

This skirt is a wrap skirt with a generous overlap so nobody has to worry if an unexpected gust of wind comes along. Guess what it’s missing? Pockets. Now everey skirt I make has pockets if possible. But I was thrilled with the result.

When I launched my new website the only skirt on there was this wrap style. Some had half circle skirts, some were 3/4 and some were full circles. I also added a custom option along with the skirts that were ready to ship. Guess what. This skirt style in the custom option is still my best seller.

When you choose the wrap skirt custom option there is plenty of collaboration to make sure that you end up with a skirt that you love. I have a ton of fabrics on hand as well as several amazing fabric stores at the ready and so if you can dream it, I can make it.

The wrap skirt that I started with is still my favorite to wear.

I wear them all year round. I have them in several lengths and fabrics from the lightest cotton to heavy twills.

The women who have these wrap skirts also love them and I couldn’t be happier. The feeling of having an idea for something and making it is a thrilling thing indeed. I hope that if you are considering your own Beth Smith Textiles wrap skirt that you will reach out to be with any questions. Ot go ahead and place your deposit to reserve your spot today!
