Maxi Wraps

As summer began to come to an end I wanted to create a new skirt based on a great idea.

In the spring I had an idea for a comfortable wrap skirt that had the look of the skirts that I had found to be most flattering on a large number of people but with the added comfort of ties. We all have those days where we feel uncomfortable in our own skin but still want to look great and a wrap skirt fits the bill. As I’ve said before, my experience with wrap skirts and dresses hasn’t been great because I also like to be modest at the same time and usually the overlap isn’t enough to make me feel comfortable that a breeze won’t blow my skirt open exposing my underthings for all to see. So I knew I wanted the overlap to be generous.

So I incorporated all of the things that I loved about the different circle skirts I was making along with panels that are wide enough to make anyone feel comfortable and I had my most favorite skirt of the summer.

Which brings me back to mid August when I thought about winter coming and how I was going to combat the coming cold weather. Longer skirts of course! But honestly I wasn’t sure about a wrap skirt that was ankle or floor length. I wasn’t familiar with any and I thought I should experiment. Well, this red plaid beauty is my trial skirt and I couldn’t be happier.

It is made with a heavy weight cotton and so will definitely be warm enough but I have also got all of the attributes that made the midi style skirts my favorites this summer.

I can see this skirt worn with a cozy sweater, long sleeve tees and silk tops. Boots or flats or heels would all be appropriate. I think it would be just as suited for the office as it would be a for a fancy gathering with just a change of top and accessories.

If you love this exact version, I still have fabric enough to make at least one more. This one is a full circle style but if you are looking for something less full you can choose to have it made in 3/4 circle or half circle style. It’s up to you. Drop me a not in the comments or send me an email if you are looking for a maxi wrap skirt of your very own for this upcoming winter.

(My top is from Chicos at least 10 years ago but I found this similar one from AnnTaylor. The Denim Jacket is from Target last year but I found this great one at The Gap!)
